After what feels like years of speculation, leaks and rumors, Nintendo has finally decided to give us an official taste of the Nintendo Switch 2 and some Nintendo fans are feasting.

A lot of what we saw were things we already knew, but it was nice to get an official word from Nintendo on this.

The Nintendo Switch 2 (thankfully, not called the "New" Nintendo Switch) comes with a a lot of improvements over the first one. This will sport a larger screen, a better looking (and my guess by design, better supporting) kick stand and bigger joycons.

One thing the trailer showed us that I like better than the original Switch design is the joycons now plug into the console rather than slide in. This should lessen, if not completely negate, the amount of times the console could not read the joycons due to wear and tear with the connection pieces. It should also fix the problems with joycons not latching to the console.

The Switch 2's joycons will now plug into the machine.

The trailer also showed Mario Kart in the background. Rumors have been swirling that Nintendo was developing Mario Kart 9 and while this isn't an official announcement of that, the course they showed does not appear in any games in the Mario Kart series.

Lastly, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have full backwards compatibility with Nintendo Switch games. This is a massive win for Nintendo as the current Switch has an incredible backlog full of games. This is normally something Nintendo has shied away from when you look at previous console iterations, so to have it in Switch 2's new hardware is a delight.

There will be a full Nintendo Switch 2 direct in April with the Switch 2 launching some time in 2025.
